Being angry is part of being human. It is not a dirty word and we might experience if we feel we’re being attacked, ignored, frustrated or cheated. Used as a lens not a weapon, anger can also help us to identify problems, motivate, create change or achieve goals.
There is another side to anger. When it gets out of control causing harms you or others.

Anger presents itself in many ways. These can include:
- Verbal outbursts escalating problems
- Silent anger when communication is too difficult
- Repressed anger – boomeranging back contributing to depression or anxiety
- Passive aggressive indirect anger – sarcasm, gossip, “banter” or “being honest”
- Irrational anger – small things causing intense or explosive angry feelings
- Domestic violence and controlling behaviour
