What is it : Emotional Balance
Emotional balance is not measured by how often you spend mindfully at peace sitting cross legged in silence. Well it isn’t for most people.
Emotional balance is a state of mind which is hard to describe but you know what it feels like to have it. And, if you are honest with yourself, you certainly know when you don’t.
You can’t write a prescription for emotional balance although it doesn’t stop many people telling you all you need is a better balance in your life and all will be fine.
The problem with this advice is that their version of emotional balance is likely to be different to your and so is highly unlikely to provide a sustainable basis for change in your life.
Common Signs : Emotional Balance
Emotional balance can look very different for every individual. However, there are some tell tale signs that indicate all is not going as smoothly as it could be:
- Reacting not responding
- Blaming others
- Looking for fault to make yourself feel superior
- Being judgemental rather than curious
- Feeling like the world is against you
- Looking (often unconsciously) for evidence that life is not fair
- Comparing yourself and your life to others
- Convincing yourself the grass is greener
Fixing it : Emotional Balance
The ultimate goal is to help regain autonomy over behaviours and responses to life as it presents itself. This is then reflected in clearer thinking, more productive behaviours.
Emotional balance is tied to how we perceive ourselves. Techniques unveiling how to understand this and reshape it in a healthy way are connected to a better understanding of the human condition and how it manifests in you.
It is like being handed a new relationship playbook that others don’t know how to find.
